The New Museum – A Vision of Transformation
Since 1967, the Canada Science and Technology Museum has been housed in temporary facilities, a repurposed bakery distribution centre that was never designed to house a state-of-the-art science and technology museum.
While the last forty years have seen improvements to the ‘temporary’ facility, a new building that can accommodate the Museum and its vast collection is the most appropriate way to achieve the vision for Canadians.
To achieve this goal, Canada needs a platform for interpreting the transformations of Canada to visitors to Canada's National Capital Region and to all Canadians through national outreach programs and exhibitions. The Museum needs a new home to accomplish this mission.
The vision for the new Museum is clustered around the theme of Transformation.
Transforming the way we share knowledge: Engaging Canadians in the past, present and future of science, technology, and society; accessing Canada’s collection through programs, partnerships and compelling visitor experiences.
Transforming our national presence through participation and linkages: Enhancing our profile and impact in all provinces and territories with a variety of partners involved in science, technology and culture, as well as creating a nationally recognized destination for Canadians.
Transforming for sustainability: Developing “living exhibitions” demonstrating sustainable building technologies at work; providing a showcase for innovative companies and institutions whose products and services transform the way Canadians work, play and live.
